Tata Motors have always been pushing the envelope when it comes to the Indian automotive scene, and their latest offering – Tata Curvv is a true example of this. Showing up in 2024, the Tata Curvv is making waves with its modern styling and feature-rich construction at a very competitive price. Described as a coupe-SUV, the Curvv seems to be attractive with numerous features and overall performance.

1. The USP: Design and Aesthetics

The design of the Tata Curvv is a major standout. The bold, premium-looking coupe-SUV silhouette makes it look more distinctive than its rivals. The Curvv does seem both futuristic and utilitarian with its sharply-angled roofline, broad front grille, and iconic ring of LEDs. The 500 liters of boot space adds to its practicality, and while it’s not a huge amount of luggage volume, it is worth noting that the design has barely been compromised by freeing up all this storage.

Design highlights include:

  • Slick LED headlamps and Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
  • Flush door handles
  • Sharp roofline for a coupe-like appearance
  • Rear is attractive too with LED tail lamps connected by a single line

Tata has done a great job blending function with aesthetics. With a 208mm ground clearance, the Curvv is capable of handling both city roads and rougher terrains. The body roll remains well-controlled, even at higher speeds.

2. Engine and Performance

The Tata Curvv comes in three engine configurations for different driving demands. The options include:

  • 1.2 petrol engine with 120hp turbo
  • 1.5-liter diesel engine, rated at 118hp

Each engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT). These configurations offer a good balance between performance and fuel efficiency. The diesel engine, in particular, stands out for its fuel economy, which is available across all versions.

The ride quality is significantly better compared to the Nexon, which the Curvv is loosely based on. The revised suspension setup, along with a 40mm longer wheelbase, provides better composure and stability on highways. The steering is light enough for city driving but offers just enough feedback for enjoying winding roads.

3. Variants and Pricing

The Tata Curvv is available in several variants, tailored to meet different customer preferences. The ex-showroom prices (Delhi) for petrol and diesel variants start at ₹9.99 lakh for the base model, going up to ₹17.69 lakh for the top model.

Variants include:

  • Smart: ₹9.99 lakh (Petrol), ₹11.49 lakh (Diesel)
  • Pure+: ₹10.99 lakh (Petrol), ₹12.49 lakh (Diesel) – features like a 7-inch touchscreen, cruise control, reverse camera

  • Accomplished+ A: ₹17.49 lakh (Petrol), ₹17.69 lakh (Diesel) – adds a 360-degree camera, gesture-controlled tailgate, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster

4. Interior and Comfort

The in-cabin experience of the Tata Curvv merges luxury with technology. The cabin features soft-touch surfaces and leatherette upholstery on the higher trims. Tata has prioritized both driver and passenger comfort, offering ventilated front seats and a powered driver seat.

Technology features:

  • Available 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment (top variant)
  • 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • JBL 9-speaker audio system
  • Voice-controlled panoramic sunroof

The rear seats provide good legroom, though taller passengers may find the headroom slightly tight due to the sloping roofline. Still, the seats are comfortable for long journeys, with adjustable recline and a rear armrest.

5. Safety and Advanced Features

Safety is a priority for Tata Motors, and the Curvv is no exception. It comes with six airbags as standard, even on the base model. Higher trims are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning and lane keep assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)

Other safety features include hill-descent control, TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), 360-degree cameras, and electronic parking brake with auto-hold function.

The Disrupter in the Indian Market?

The Tata Curvv is a well-rounded vehicle, offering a mix of style, performance, and technology at competitive pricing. Its coupe-SUV design is a fresh departure from traditional SUV styling, and its comprehensive feature list makes it a strong contender in the mid-size SUV segment.

With multiple engine options and Tata’s reputation for safety, the Curvv is a unique, tech-loaded SUV that should appeal to a broad audience.
